Pipes

Tobacco pipes evoke a whole smorgasbord of popular images. Famous literary figures. Norman Rockwell paintings. Power brokers making backroom deals. Even just a generic icon of dear old Dad reading the Saturday Evening Post. When you are ready to join that ragtag but very posh Zeitgeist - and maybe even invoke a brand new atmosphere all your own - you are ready to take a good look at some tobacco pipes.

Our selection of pipes here at Diplomat Cigars ranges from the most basic to the most luxuriant of pipes. Traditional briarwood pipes are popular, as the material is renewable and allows moisture to be absorbed. (Higher moisture retention in pipes is a sign of quality – i.e., the wood is resistant to heat.) Meerschaum pipes are smoking pipes that are made of a white mineral from Turkey. They can be carved into any shape, making for an incredibly diverse array of options in and of itself. Pipes can also be made from clay, calabash (a type of gourd), glass, corncobs, even stone and metal. The Japanese, for example, are known for making pipes out of bronze, pewter, or stainless steel.

To care for your collection of smoking pipes, simply clean out the stems with a pipe cleaner once in awhile. The bowl too will eventually form what is a called a “cake” – a very thin layer of residue. The cake is often considered a desirable development in the life of tobacco pipes, but if the cake is too thick, it will need to be “reamed” or scraped. Meerschaum pipes and meerschaum pipe bowls should never be allowed to develop a cake.

Not sure what kind of pipe to get? Too many pipes to choose from? Not a problem. At Diplomat Cigars, we pride ourselves on our ability to find the right pipe for your personality. So come on in, make yourself at home, light up an Arturo Fuente cigar in the meantime, and take your time. Our wide selection of pipes are sure to present at least one beauty that speaks to you.
